Chapter 9
âAgatha said someone new would come into my life,â Annabelle informed me the following afternoon.
âShe did? Did she happen to say whoâd be coming into your life or when you should expect them?â
She frowned. âNo. She just said that someone new would be coming into my life, and I should expect a tide of feeling to accompany this meeting. You donât think itâs something bad, do you?â
âProbably not. A tide of feeling does sound sort of overwhelming, but I suppose it might be a tide of good feeling. Do you want peanut butter or cheese with your crackers?â
âPeanut butter, please.â
Annabelle and Jeremy had just returned from town, where Jeremy had picked Annabelle up from school and then had taken her to visit Agatha at her fortune-telling booth. When theyâd returned, Jeremy had offered to help the four author stalkers carry the bags of goodies theyâd purchased while in town today up to their suites, and Annabelle had come into the kitchen looking for a snack. Georgia was in town taking care of errands of her own, and I didnât have a lot of time before I had to get ready for the evening event, so Iâd settled on offering crackers as a snack.
âWe do have that family checking in today,â I reminded Annabelle. âThey have a boy a year older than you and a girl a year younger. Maybe one of our guests will be the new person coming into your life that Agatha was referring to.â
She dipped her cracker into a blob of peanut butter and took a bite. âMaybe. But we get new guests all the time. It seems like for a fortune to be a fortune, it should be different than what you already know about and are expecting.â
I supposed Annabelle had a point.
âIs Shelby coming over to do your hair?â she asked.
I nodded. âIn fact, Shelby should be here any minute. I wanted to hop in the shower before she got here, so I think Iâll head over to the cottage. If she shows up at the inn, please tell her to meet me over there.â
âCan I watch?â
I screwed the lid back on the peanut butter jar. âSure, if you want to. Iâm not sure how interesting it will be, but Shelby is really good with hair and makeup, so it might be entertaining.â
âIâll come over after she gets here,â Annabelle said. âDo you know when Georgia will be back from town?â
âShe had a bunch of errands to run to get ready for the Harvest Festival tomorrow, but Iâm sure sheâll be back in plenty of time to get things ready for dinner.â
âIs the grouchy lady going to be here again?â
By grouchy lady, I knew Annabelle was referring to Angelica Beauregard, whoâd complained all through dinner the previous evening. I was still trying to figure out how a piece of meat could be both too juicy and too dry at the same time, but according to Angelica, that was exactly what Georgiaâs roast had been. Of course, in reality, the meat had been delicious, and the other guests had loved it.
